February meeting, March workshop

The Lafayette Lacemakers will meet this Saturday at 9 a.m. at the

Wells Community Cultural Center   (TAF)

638 North St, Lafayette, IN 47901.

There will be no business meeting.  There will be two programs on Saturday:

       The first presentation will be by Cathy K. sharing classes she took at the 2018 IOLI Convention.  She learned about making lace on an Eastern European bolster pillow.  She will share the two laces she studied, show the prickings used, and will explain the "open" method of making bobbin lace.

       The second program led by Erma R. who will share crochet snowflakes and/or winter ornaments we can make.   Members - please see email for supplies needed and additional details.  Patterns will be provided.

The Lafayette Lacemakers meeting will be held on Saturday, July 13th

at the 
Tippecanoe Arts Federation building, 
638 North Street, Lafayette Indiana.

There will be NO business meeting.

We will have a Lace-In 

(bring project you need help with or would like to work on).

Or, you may want to keep on creating small lace samples for the cards handed out at lace demonstrations. 

Feast:  Lace samples need to be 'period correct' so be conscious of color + don't get too fancy w/patterns.  

      
 

As always, keep track of your volunteer hours and turn in those hours at the monthly meetings.

During the TAF renovations (probably a year),  we will be meeting at the TCHA History Center,  located at the NW corner of Columbia  and 6th Streets in Lafayette  (just 2 blocks south of the TAF building where we used to meet).  
Currently, there is no sign on the TCHA History Center.   The building is  across the street from the  Lafayette City Hall and Police Station which do have signs.
On-street parking has no time limit on Saturdays; however, keep in mind, there is a
Farmers  Market in the morning, one block west of the History Center.     
In addition to on on-street parking spaces, there is FREE parking on Saturday  at the Columbia Block Parking Facility,  (located south of Columbia Street -- one block west of the TCHA History Center)    Columbia Block Parking Facility 18 No Fifth St Lafayette, IN   
Enter the History Building on the east side, on the 6th Street side.   Doors to the building open at 8:45am, meeting begins at 9am, followed by program.

Following the monthly business meeting, the ornament theme program will begin:

Our holiday ornament, theme program has been changed.   Members, bring your favorite holiday patterns to share.   

Bette is going to share a pattern of a 3D Bunny.  It is a bobbin lace pattern.  She will bring the pattern on cardstock.

To create the 3D bunny, participants will need Bockens 35/2 linen, perle cotton + cookie pillow ( pricking is apx 10" long ) , straight pins, crochet hook for sewing, etc.  

Members - keep an eye on your e-mail for pricking + additional information.

June 9: Introduction to Estonian knitted lace

Following the business meeting on 6/9, Anne Reaves led our program:  Introduction to Estonian knitted lace.  She encouraged the members to try a 16 stitch sampler --  so, do you know what a "Nupp" is?

 Do you see the raised areas inside 3 of the four diamonds?  "Nupp".

 Do you know what to do when you have a yarn over at the end of a row -- and need to purl the next row?   Stumped?   Guess who knows .... Yes, Anne has the answer --  Just ask!

While we are on the subject of knitting, are you a knitter that throws?   Check out Continental knitting in the video below.   No more throwing yarn!

The July program (following business meeting) is a Lace In.   Please bring anything you have in progress, including the June sampler (Intro to Estonian knitted lace).   Or create a few small lace samples for the cards we hand out at community events.
