Lace Bits .... St Catherine, patron saint of lacemakers, celebrates her Feast Day on November 25 -- Virtual Lace Education -- Bobbin Lace Patterns -- Needle Lace

Community lacemaking with Maggie Hensel Brown and an opportunity to celebrate St. Catherine's Day.

She needs hundreds (if not thousands) of needle lace leaves as per the description on her website to create a work of art to be exhibited in Sydney Australia in May. Leaves must be received by March. 

This effort is also being supported by the IOLI in the form of a challenge. https://lacechallenge.internationalorganizationoflace.org/

Perhaps your group would like to assemble and learn how to make the needle lace leaves via videos and written instructions on Maggie's website. Every contributor will be listed and acknowledged in an effort to recognize lacemakers who have so often been anonymous.

Intermediate Shuttle Tatting: Beyond Rings, Chains, and Joins

Instructor: Kelli Slack

Course Description: This class will focus on creating a bracelet and charms using advanced shuttle tatting techniques such as: beading, self-closing mock rings, split rings, Josephine knots, dot picots, double picots, 2-shuttle work, continuous thread method, shoe-lace trick, and lock joins. Add to your tatting arsenal and end the class with a lovely bracelet.

Level: Continuing Beginner, Intermediate

Prerequisite: Students should know basic shuttle tatting skills such as rings, chains, picots, and joins.

Dates: 2 Wednesdays – September 13 and 20, 2023

Course Description: Kelli is an experienced tatter who loves to share her passion. Learn the basics of shuttle tatting including rings, chains, picots, and joins, and begin creating heirloom lace or fun accessories.

Tatting Class with Kelli Slack

 

For those looking to move forward with their tatting skills, there is still room in Kelli Slack's class.   2022 IOLI Convention 

A525 Tatting From Thread to Wire and Picots to Chains—For those at Level 2 and above (Kelli Slack)

 In this tatting class, we will focus on the basics of tatting. There are many ways to form picots, to make joins, and to use rings. We will play with as many techniques as we can fit into class, including using wire for tatting. Each day will focus on a different aspect of tatting. There will be projects available, but during class we will focus more on technique than a project.

Prerequisites: Students must understand basic tatting terminology and be able to make rings, chains, joins, picots, split rings, mock rings, self-closing mock rings and how to use beads, hide ends, etc.

Kelli Slack is a lace lover who teaches both knitting and tatting. A multiple knitting and lace award winner, designer, and author, she also holds a Masters degree in both Education and Learning Design from Purdue University and loves to use her knowledge of teaching to create crafting classes.

Tatting Class with Kelli Slack

   Would you like to take a tatting class, but you don't want to travel for it? The IOLI convention is holding a 6 hour virtual tatting class with Convention teacher Kelli Slack on Sunday, July 17th for those who wish to tat at home. It is a 6 hour class for those tatters at Level 2 and above.

SU101 Tatting: From Beginnings to Endings--For those at Level 2 and above (Kelli Slack)

In this tatting class we will focus on the basics of tatting. We will use different methods to begin our tatting, create rings, join, close rings, hide ends, and evaluate a pattern to
achieve our desired result. This will be a technically oriented sampling class, so be prepared to cut your tatting!

Prerequisites: Must understand basic tatting terminology and be able to make rings, chains, picots, joins and read patterns. Intermediate knowledge is not required but may be helpful.
