Lafayette Lacemakers, Inc.

Our non-profit organization,
was founded in 1981,

in lace + lacemaking.

We extend our invitation
for you to become better acquainted with lace
and our chapter Lafayette Lacemakers.

Purpose

The purpose shall be to promote interest in the studying and identifying of laces, to collect and preserve laces, to provide educational programs and to instruct members in the methods and techniques of lacemaking, and to stimulate interest in the community in all aspects of lace.

Lace Challenge Guidelines

The challenge is open to any lacemaking technique and to all members of Lafayette Lacemakers. The Theme of the Lace Challenge is Jewelry. There is no time window on when items were made. Items must be made by the person submitting. The challenge is open to any lacemaking technique and to all members of Lafayette Lacemakers. Items may be original designs or patterns from published sources. For items made from published sources, reference to the pattern source must accompany each item. There is no limit on the number of items one person may enter in the challenge. We will display items submitted to the challenge in one of the display cabinets at the West Lafayette Public Library. The date when we can get the display cabinet will determine the deadline for the challenge. note that, due to space limitations, all items submitted to the challenge might not be displayed at the library.

International Organization of Lace

International Organization of Lace
The objectives of the IOLI shall be
to promote interest in the fine old laces,
to preserve fine laces for posterity,
to study the history and characteristics of lace,
to teach and promote lacemaking + lace identification,
to promote + encourage lace exhibits,
and
to encourage museums that own lace collections to exhibit their collections + make them generally available by the public at large.

Various members of nobility sold land to own it.

It was an offering to God from the nuns who made it for the church.

Merchants considered it a commodity as valuable as gold.

Peasants used it as a means of support.
