June 9: Introduction to Estonian knitted lace

Photo above:  Knitting by Anne Reaves.
Pattern:  Queen Silvia Shawl

Following the business meeting on 6/9, Anne Reaves led our program:  Introduction to Estonian knitted lace.  She encouraged the members to try a 16 stitch sampler --  so, do you know what a "Nupp" is?

Do you see the raised areas inside 3 of the four diamonds?  "Nupp".

Do you know what to do when you have a yarn over at the end of a row -- and need to purl the next row?   Stumped?   Guess who knows .... Yes, Anne has the answer --  Just ask!

Thanks Anne for the wonderful presentation and sharing your expertise!

While we are on the subject of knitting, are you a knitter that throws?   Check out Continental knitting in the video below.   No more throwing yarn!

The July program (following business meeting) is a Lace In.   Please bring anything you have in progress, including the June sampler (Intro to Estonian knitted lace).   Or create a few dad/doodles for the cards we hand out at community events.

Members -- check your e-mail for upcoming program details & guidelines for the Lafayette Lacemakers Lace Challenge.

Lafayette Lacemakers Meeting:

Just a reminder:  now we meet at the TCHA History Center at the NW corner
of Columbia  and 6th Streets in Lafayette (just 2 blocks south of the
TAF building where we used to meet).

Last time I checked there was no
sign on the building but it is just across the street from the
Lafayette City Hall and Police Station that does have a sign.

On-street parking has no time limit on Saturdays but there is a
Farmers  Market in the morning just one block west of the History
Center so on-street parking may be hard to find.

There is a parking
garage on 5th street just south of Columbia Street (one block west of
the TCHA History Center).

Enter the History Building on the east side, on the 6th Street
side where there are no stairs.

Sunday, April 8, 2018

The April meeting will be the last one held at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation for at least a year while the building is being renovated.   Details and a map will be available soon for the new meeting location (beginning in MAY 2018.)

Following the business meeting in April, members will work on dodads / doodles for handing out at lace demonstrations.  Patterns in newsletter.

Reminder -- Election of officers at the May meeting!
